Foundation Scholarships
In an effort to make all Peninsula College scholarships, including Foundation schoarships, available to the greatest number of students, most scholarships applications will be available in early spring with award for summer and fall of the same year. Some scholarships may be available at different times during the school year, so check the website periodically or contact the Financial Aid office for specifics. Those scholarships that are avaialble will be linked to their specific applications.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION - You must read and follow these instructions in order to complete a scholarship application!
What are the requirements?
- Applications MUST be completed by the applicant. Under no circumstances can parents, teachers or counselors complete a scholarship application for a student. No scholarship or applicant information will be discussed with or released to anyone other than the applicant, pursuant with FERPA regulations.
- Scholarship criteria vary; however, most scholarships are for individuals with financial need. Scholarships are available for both full-time and part-time students. International students are welcome to apply. Some scholarships are for specific areas of study or for individuals with specific backgrounds or needs. Please see scholarship listing for details.
- If awarded a scholarship, recipients must return a signed agreement and a thank you letter prior to the funds being released. The Foundation must receive these no later than a date to be announced or the scholarship funds will be forfeited. The Foundation is not responsible for the loss of funds due to the student's lack of fulfilling of this requirement, so please plan accordingly.
- Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5, unless otherwise noted. Some scholarships require a higher minimum GPA.
- Certain scholarship recipients will be required to meet with the donors who make scholarships possible. Recipients will be notified about the date as soon as possible, if applicable.
- If these requirements are not satisfied, the Foundation reserves the right to revoke scholarship funds for future quarters.
Letters of recommendation must be submitted in person or by mail. An original signature is required.
Note:
An application for Peninsula College Foundation scholarship does not take the place of an Peninsula College Financial Aid application. For information about financial aid, speak with the Peninsula College Financial Aid Office, at 360-417-6390. All students are encouraged to complete a financial aid application in addition to this application.
What scholarships are available?
The following is a list of available scholarships. Different scholarships have different criteria and are available at different times of the year. Criteria range from academics to program of study. Be sure to answer all questions honestly, as scholarships are available for all types of people. Please note that students will be disqualified from being awarded ALL scholarships if it is found that they have misrepresented themselves in any way.
NOTE: Available scholarships will be indicated with a link to their specific application. If there is no link, then the scholarship is not available at this time.
Scholarship Funds

The E. John and Helen Maier President’s Scholarship was established in memory of John Maier, the founding president of Peninsula college, by the Maier family. It is awarded annually to a qualified applicant who plans to enroll in studies at Peninsula College. The intention of the scholarship is to expand opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds who have the potential of becoming role models for excellence in education and leadership. The grant amount is $1000 but may vary, depending on individual circumstances and need.

The Ed Tisch Memorial Scholarship was recently established in memory of Ed Tisch, a beloved and esteemed faculty member, who taught at the college for over 40 years until his death in 2007. The scholarships will be awarded annually in the amount of $1000 to a qualified applicant who demonstrates a strong interest in the sciences. Special consideration will be given to students with an interest in botany, forest ecology and/or wildlife biology on the Olympic Peninsula. Applicants should also demonstrate a strong intention to enroll in a baccalaureate-level program as a Science major following completion of studies at Peninsula College.

The Environmental Science Scholarship was recently established through a generous donation from a local community member interested in the environment for students pursuing a four year degree in the environmental science area of study. The scholarship will be awarded annually in increments of $2000 for second year students, $3000 for third year students, and $4000 for four year students. All recipients must be full-time students at Peninsula College or at a Peninsula College affiliated program.

The First Federal Savings Academic Excellence Scholarship established by First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Port Angeles at Peninsula College is made available by a yearly gift from First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Port Angeles. Three students are awarded one-third of the annual $5,000 donation for recognition of outstanding academic achievement and community service.

The Foundation General scholarships provides one general scholarship for graduating high school seniors intent on attending Peninsula College at each of the area's high schools; one from Port Angeles or Sequim High School, one from a West End high school, and one from a Jefferson County High School. The general scholarship is also provided to a Peninsula College returning student. Each of these scholarships is awarded annually for $1000 each.

The Irma Lindsay Memorial Scholarship was a general scholarship. It was provided by donations made in the memory of Irma Lindsey, a beloved campus community member. This generous scholarship will be awarded for the last time to help a student in 2008 as the funds are depleted.

The Jewel Webber Scholarship was established in memory of Jewel Webber, mother of Foundation Executive Director, Mary Hunchberger and a single parent who worked her way through college while supporting a family of five. This scholarship is awarded annually in the amount of $1000 for students entering or continuing in the Medical/Healthcare Assistant program at Peninsula College; preference to a single parent with financial need.

The John's Scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified applicant who plans to enroll in sophomore-year studies at Peninsula College pursuing an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. The generous donors, who wish to remain anonymous, say this about the scholarship: "The name John means, 'the Lord has been gracious.' This scholarship received this name because we truly feel that God has been gracious to us and provided us not only with the ability to acquire our education, but also the resources to now assist others." The total of the scholarship is $2,000 for the academic year.

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild Scholarship is available for students in their second year of the Nursing Program at Peninsula College. This scholarship is awarded annually to two students in the amount of $1,100.

The Orkney Student Loan Fund is available for students at Peninsula College through the bequest of Jerry McGillicuddy Orkney. Her philanthropic interests included seeing that Peninsula College students needing financial help in order to remain in school would have the assistance they needed. The recipient will pay the loan back within the quarter for which it was applied, thus ensuring another student or students can be helped. These funds are available through the Financial Aid Office and the Foundation Office.
